L’édition 1997 du Concours a eu lieu à Cascais et à Lisbonne (ce fut l’une des deux seules éditions ayant requis un déménagement de tout le groupe pendant la session). Le Concours était physiquement tourné vers l’Atlantique, puisque le groupe était hébergé à l’hôtel Atlantic Gardens de Cascais pendant les premiers jours. Le cas pratique était également tourné vers l’Atlantique, le scénario fictif ayant lieu dans les pays Atlanto-riftiens. Le scénario était introduit par un petit livre (43 pages), édité par les célèbres Éditions de la Chapelle, qui faisait l’exégèse de textes traditionnels atlantes et utilisait ce texte à l’appui de thèses politiques. On imagine bien que les équipes furent surprises lors de la réception de l’ouvrage.

Les premières pages de l’ouvrage sont reproduites ci-dessous. Après le « texte majeur » et les « textes mineurs », figuraient des commentaires sur les textes ainsi que des revendications politiques assez claires. En 1997, peu d’équipes avaient les moyens de retracer l’origine des textes, tâche aujourd’hui aisée sur Internet.

Pour ajouter à la préparation (ou à la confusion) des équipes, le projet de procès-verbal de l’Organisation pour la Sécurité et la Coopération Atlanto-Riftienne (OSCAR) leur a été fourni par le responsable des projets spéciaux, Nicolas Borchanteur. Cette organisation incluait les trois pays atlantes, le Belokan, le Rukavé, le Jabriyé, et les trois pays riftiens, l’Ynemir, l’Ynefer et le Mayar. Ce fut aussi l’occasion de distribuer une très belle carte, où chaque membre de chaque équipe a pu apercevoir son nom…

Tant la carte que le procès-verbal semblent avoir disparu de nos archives. Il faudra lancer des recherches approfondies.

Mais pourquoi un hommage à Johhny Clegg, au fait ? Simplement à cause du nom de l’auteur de l’ouvrage, qui constituait un hommage à une magnifique chanson de Johnny Clegg.

The 1997 edition of the Competition took place in Cascais and Lisbon (it was one of the two editions that included a move of the entire group during the session). The Competition was physically oriented towards the Atlantic, as the group was hosted at the Atlantic Gardens Hotel in Cascais for the first few days. The study case also turned towards the Atlantic, the fictitious scenario taking place in the Atlanto-Riftian countries. The script was introduced by a small book (43 pages), published by the famous Editions de La Chapelle, an exegesis of traditional Atlantean texts using the text to support political views. We can well imagine that the teams were surprised when they received the book. The first pages of the book are reproduced below.

After the « major text » and the « minor texts », there were comments on the texts as well as fairly clear political demands. In 1997, few teams had means to trace back the origin of the texts, a task that is today easy on the Internet.

To add to the preparation (or confusion) of the teams, the draft minutes of the Organisation for Security and Atlanto-Riftian Cooperation (OSCAR, from the French acronym) were provided by the special project manager, Nicolas Borchanteur. This organization included the three Atlantean countries, Belokan, Rukavé, Jabriyé, and the three Riftian countries, Ynemir, Ynefer and Mayar. It was also the opportunity to distribute a very nice map, where each member of each team could see his or her name…

Both the map and the minutes seem to have disappeared from our archives. It will be necessary to start in-depth search.

But why a tribute to Johhny Clegg, by the way? Simply because of the name of the author of the book, which was a tribute to a beautiful song by Johnny Clegg.
