Cette affiche était celle de l’édition 2001 du Concours. L’édition francophone était annoncée du 10 au 18 février, l’anglophone du 7 au 15 avril, et la finale le 12 aôut. Il fallait le déduire du choix de la langue utilisée pour les mois… et se passer de l’annonce des lieux, à savoir Laprugne, Allier, France, et Cleveland, Ohio, États-Unis. Deux lieux fort différents, en somme. Mais deux très belles éditions du Concours.
Plus d’une personne a dû se demander ce que signifiait « Nÿ 13å Oðhçÿ ». Le cas pratique était construit autour de la 13e Odyssée de Stanley Verech, une sorte d’électron libre emmenant ses troupes dans la plaine de l’Yhyahya et au Zaakaland – orthographes non garanties. On était en 2001, une année parfaite pour une odyssée, même non spatiale, et si Stanley faisait bien sûr référence à Kubrick, Verech faisait référence à Ulysse (U/V, rêche/lisse). Jeu de mot intraduisible, et tout montrait que le goût des initiateurs du cas pratique pour les mauvais calembours et les signes typographiques particuliers n’a pas commencé avec le macron (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macron_(diacritique)) du Cēthun en 2019. Quitte à irriter quelqufois les membres de la cuisine…
This poster was the designed for the 2001 edition of the Competition. The French edition was announced for February 10-18, the English edition for April 7-15, and the final for August 12. One had to deduce this from the choice of language used for the months… and had to do without the announcement of the locations, namely Laprugne, Allier, France, and Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Two very different places, in short. But two very beautiful editions of the Competition.
More than one person must have wondered what « Nÿ 13å Oðhçÿ » meant. The study case was built around Stanley Verech’s 13th Odyssey, a kind of maverick taking his troops to the Yhyahya plain and Zaakaland – spelling not verified. It was 2001, a perfect year for an odyssey, even a non-spatial one, and if Stanley was of course referring to Kubrick, Verech was referring to Ulysses (U/V, rough/smooth for « lisse »/ »rêche » in French). Untranslatable joke, and everything showed that the case initiators’ taste for bad jokes and particular typographical signs did not start with the macron (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macron_(diacritic)) of Cēthun in 2019. Even if it sometimes irritates the members of the kitchen….
